FAQ

What do your cows eat? Are they grass fed? 

 Our cows are pasture fed in the spring and summer months and in the winter, get fed a grassy alfalfa hay which we grow right here on the farm. In fact, all our forages for our cows is grown right here so we know exactly what they are eating.

Plus a couple mystery items! We use up everything we have week by week. That’s the best part about having a flexible produce bag full of fruits and veg.

Contents subject to change. And we may even add more food - that is not perfect, above and beyond what you paid the $40 for. Please understand we know the quality is not perfect, we are simply trying to not waste the food. 

Produce availability is determined by where we are at in the growing season. Please subscribe to our email newsletter at the bottom of this page if you are interested in getting a weekly list of what fruits and vegetables are in the bag.

*Please note, we add in produce that is not local but this will be very limited, and likely none in the growing season. But, for example, if we come across an excess of avocados, we'd like to be able to provide them to you and will add them. Or, we add bananas, because a lot of our subscribers are parents, and the kids enjoy them. And in some cases, we buy them so they can be given out easily to the people who are still without a home in Niagara. 

Our point? We want local more than anyone, and this product is an example of how we are navigating the current food system in real time, to increase our purchasing power, and grow and buy more local food. 

When we purchase from a local food system, the profit stays within our community. We believe this is a great way to unite the various groups within Niagara to both fundraise but also feed. And grow... And then grow even more.

Free delivery item: Locally grown, Lion’s mane is primarily known for its brain-boosting and brain-protective properties, but it's also a absolutely delicious! Lion’s Mane mushrooms are tender, with a mild, sweet, flavour.

We call them the gateway mushroom, because they are so mild and approachable, even for children. And if someone thinks they don't like mushrooms because of texture, this mushroom fries or BBQs up like a steak, or you can tease it apart and use it like a pulled pork in a sandwich.

It's also gourmet, simply diced up, and pan fried with salt and pepper. Be generous with oil, or butter, or bacon fat, and make sure you get some browning and caramelization.

Important: We deliver to St. Catharines, NF, Welland and Pelham for free delivery Wednesdays. All other areas of Niagara and Hamilton will be added on either Thursday, Friday or Saturday depending where you live. Please see our regular delivery details for which day you can expect your food.
